OLYMPIC LEGEND MICHAEL PHELPS TO COMPETE IN COLUMBUS GRAND PRIX

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Monday, March 29, 2010 Contact: Karen Linhart, (719) 866-3588, klinhart@usaswimming.org Phelps, Shanteau and Sutton to Compete at the Columbus Grand Prix, April 1-3 The Fifth Stop of the USA Swimming Grand Prix Series to Take Place in Columbus, Ohio COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Olympians Michael Phelps (Baltimore, Md.), Eric Shanteau (Lilburn, Ga.), and Chloe Sutton (Mission Viejo, Calif.), and other members of the U.S. National Swim Team, will compete at the Columbus Grand Prix, April 1-3 in Columbus, Ohio. The meet will take place at the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion at The Ohio State University, and is the fifth stop of the eight-meet USA Swimming Grand Prix Series that awards the overall winner $20,000. A leaderboard can be found online at www.usaswimming.org/grandprix. Phelps, Shanteau and Sutton will be joined in Columbus by U.S. Olympians Cullen Jones (New Brunswick, N.J.), Peter Vanderkaay (Rochester, Mich.), Kate Ziegler (Fairfax, Va.), and Christine Marshall (Newport News, Va.), as well as Olympic medalists Cesar Cielo of Brazil and Markus Rogan of Austria. More than 15 U.S. National Teamers are entered in the meet, including Nick Thoman (Cincinnati, Ohio), Dagny Knutson (Minot, N.D.), Alex Vanderkaay (Rochester, Mich.), Felicia Lee (Wayne, N.J.), Tyler Clary (Riverside, Calif.), Erika Erndl (Naples, Fla.), Elizabeth Pelton (Ruxton, Md.), Patrick Schirk (Pottstown, Pa.), Justine Mueller (Monroe, Mich.) and Bryan Lundquist (Marrieta, Ga.). The Grand Prix Series serves as an opportunity for swimmers to race against some of the best competition in the country, as they continue their preparation for the 2010 ConocoPhillips National Championships and the 2010 Pan Pacific Championships, both of which will take place in Irvine, Calif. The last three stops of the Grand Prix series are in Charlotte, N.C., Santa Clara, Calif., and Los Angeles. Tickets for the Columbus Grand Prix are $15 per session or $20 for an all-day pass. An all-session pass is available for $45. Tickets can be purchased at the door or online at www.ColumbusSports.org. Finals start at 6 p.m. ET and prelims begin at 9 a.m. ET. Race footage from the Grand Prix meet will be broadcast online on www.swimnetwork.com. The site will also feature behind-the-scene interviews with athletes and coaches, previews and results.
