2008 U.S. OLYMPIC TEAM TRIALS SET FOR MCCORKLE AQUATIC PAVILION THIS WEEKEND

Event Will Name Team USA's First 2008 Olympic Games Athletes* CThe nation's top synchronized swimmers will gather at the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion on the campus of The Ohio State University, December, 10-12 for the 2008 U.S. Olympic Team Trials for Synchronized Swimming and the 2007 Senior National Team Trials. The competition will determine the pair of athletes who will represent the United States in the duet event in the upcoming World Championships, Pan American Games and 2008 Olympic Games, and will be take place Sunday, December 10, beginning at 1:00 p.m. A reception and autograph session will follow the competition. The remaining members of the 2008 Olympic Synchronized Swimming Team will be named April 28, 2007 in Indianapolis, Ind. at the U.S. National Championships. The Senior National Team Trials will facilitate the naming of the National Team, which will represent the United States at the 2007 World Championships held in Melbourne, Australia, March 17-24. The team trials will take place December 11-12. The Greater Columbus Sports Commission and The Ohio State University will serve as hosts for the event. United States Synchronized Swimming (USSS) serves as the National Governing Body for the sport of synchronized swimming, appointed as such by the United States Olympic Committee. USSS is a membership-based and non-for-profit organization which services the sport from the grass roots level to the National Team. The mission statement of USSS is "to provide leadership and resources for the promotion and growth of synchronized swimming, to achieve competitive excellence at all levels and to develop broad based participation." The Greater Columbus Sports Commission was founded in June 2002 to attract professional, amateur, collegiate and youth sporting events to Columbus. *Athletes will be the first to be nominated to the United States Olympic Committee for the 2008 Olympic Team
