COLUMBUS TO HOST NSA GIRLS FAST PITCH WORLD SERIES
July 24, 2006

TOURNEY TO ATTRACT 400 TEAMS AND 18,000 PLAYERS, FANS TO BERLINER PARK

One of the largest youth softball tournaments in the nation will return to Berliner Park this weekend when the National Softball Association hosts its top-level girls fast pitch World Series in Columbus.

Nearly 400 teams and up to 18,000 participants, coaches and fans will flood Columbus for eight days of competition and festivities. The tournament will be held July 24-30, with opening ceremonies to be held July 23 in Cooper Stadium, immediately after the Columbus Clippers-Pawtucket Red Sox game. The opening ceremonies will include pin trading and other activities. Tournament play begins on Monday, July 24 at Berliner Park.

Players, coaches and fans in Columbus for the tournament are expected to spend an estimated $12.5 million during the tournament’s eight days. Columbus also hosted the tournament in 1996, 1998, 2000 and 2004.

“The NSA World Series is one of the top fast pitch tournaments in the nation and we are thrilled that it is back in Columbus this year,” said Linda Logan, executive director of the Greater Columbus Sports Commission. “Berliner Park, with 31 fields, is the largest softball complex in the country and the perfect site to host such tournaments.”

The NSA Girls Fast Pitch World Series will be competed in five age divisions: 18-under, 16-under, 14-under, 12-under and 10-under. For more information about the tournament, visit www.playnsa.com and www.nsa-youthworld.com.
