COLUMBUS TO HOST ELITE BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT IN JULY

Many of the top high-school basketball players in the country and will descend on Columbus in July when the inaugural Heartland Elite Classic basketball tournament is held in Columbus, the Greater Columbus Sports Commission announced today. The Heartland Elite Classic will feature 48 basketball teams who will a format that will guarantee each team plays at least four games. The event, which is sanctioned by the National Collegiate Athletic Association, will also feature slam-dunk and three-point shooting contests. "Columbus is a premier basketball city and we are thrilled to be hosting our first major summer tournament," said Linda Shetina Logan, executive director of the Greater Columbus Sports Commission. "Not only will many of the best high school players from the Midwest and around the country be in town, but several leading Division I coaches will be here, too, as the tournament will be held in the midst of the summer recruiting season."
